Jonah’s Road may be an Australian country music band but they know how to rock with the best of them. Comprised of Jay Collie on lead vocals and guitar, John Kater sharing vocals and playing bass and Rodney Auld on lead guitar and harmonies, Jonah's Road is well-known for its contemporary sound, great songwriting and tight harmonies.
New Audiences
After releasing a limited edition EP, End of the World, at the start of the year, the band spent much of the first half of 2010 playing shows with legendary Australian rocker Jon English, who also happens to be lead singer Jay Collie’s uncle, which introduced the band to plenty of new fans.
“The shows have been getting us out into a totally different audience who would not really go to see a country band,” Jay said in an interview.
“They are realising that country is far less country than my uncle’s late 1970s rock stuff.”
Tim McGraw Tour
The rest of 2010 promises to be an even busier and more exciting time as Jonah's Road embarks on their first multi-city international support tour with American country music superstar Tim McGraw.
“When Tim McGraw was announced as coming out, he asked for a bunch of submissions and they chose us,” Jay said. “I’m not much of a dancing person but I was happy dancing on the inside.”
Jonah’s Road will play McGraw's Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane shows.
“We’re hoping it will put us in front of the right people because we’ve struggled to get any sort of label interested in what we do,” Jay said.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to do our thing and the right people will be able to see us in the right environment.”
Celebrating Ten Years
Jonah's Road is not a newcomer band on the music scene, they have been battling it out in the industry for ten years and are preparing to celebrate the milestone.
The band members are working on having a new album out in time for their Tim McGraw support gigs as well as a 10th anniversary box set. The set will include the two albums and three EPs they’ve released so far.
So far, their two independent studio albums Hold On and Counting Down The Days have brought fans to their music in droves and yielded plenty of #1 hits and videos and many awards for the group known best for its fantastic harmonies and tight playing.
